Crystal Shapes: What Do They Mean & How to Use Them

Our community never ceases to amaze me! The questions and comments we get in our inbox are always so thoughtful and important, I’m always so excited to share the answers with you!

Recently, I received an email asking about crystal shapes:“Hey Sara, I wanted to ask you about crystal shapes… There are so many and I just have no idea what the difference is between them all. I recently purchased a beautiful sphere and a carved angel, both in Rose Quartz. So I’m wondering, how do I use them? Are there different ways to get more out of each shape? Help! :)

I totally get this—there are SO MANY different shapes and forms that crystals come in and if you aren’t clear on what each one means and how you can use them, it can feel a bit overwhelming.

But don’t fear, I’m here to help you learn the ins and outs of crystal shapes so you can get the most out of all of your crystals. So let’s dive in and explore our 9 most popular crystal shapes.

Hearts

Easily identified as the universal symbol of love, the heart is the embodiment of all kinds of love. Universal love, self-love, unconditional love, familial love, romantic love—all this and more is encapsulated in the heart.

When a crystal is heart-shaped it helps to attract love into your life, no matter what the healing properties of said crystal are. The shape of the crystal works together with the healing properties of the crystal while also drawing love to you.

If you have a Rose Quartz heart, for example, you’ll be getting a double dose of energetic love. But if you are working with a Red Jasper heart, you will feel safe, grounded, and secure in your love for yourself and those around you—a truly winning combination!

Heart crystals are perfect for working to open/heal your Heart Chakra and can be intentionally set to that end. They are also wonderful to sleep with if you are having a hard time falling—or staying—asleep at night.

Spheres

Spheres direct energy evenly in all directions. While the energy of the shape is very orderly in this sense, it is still a very organic form.

The sphere symbolizes wholeness, and its ties to the circle represent the cycles of life that we all experience. This focus on the circle of life makes crystal spheres very energetic and transformative. Spheres bring a sense of stability and harmony, and they have very balancing energy.

One of my favorite ways to use spheres is to hold one in each hand while I am meditating—natural Citrine spheres are great for this practice as they can help boost your manifestation abilities. Because they emit 360 degrees of energy, spheres also make the perfect center point in a crystal grid.

Eggs

Much like the sphere, eggs emit their energy from all sides, but they have a focal point at the top where the energy is strongest. Egg crystals represent creation, fertility, and life. And they are excellent to use for personal growth, starting fresh, or beginning something new as they support transformations.

Eggs are imbued with feminine energy that can be empowering for anyone who chooses to work with the crystal. Because of this, they are often used as tools in reproductive health. Shiva Lingam is a perfect example of this—this stone supports fertility in both men and women and is often found in an egg shape.

Whether you are looking for help on your reproductive journey or you are starting something new in your life, an egg-shaped crystal can help. Connect with your crystal to help you embark on your new journey and then use that crystal for meditation and manifestation.

Towers & Points

Towers and points are two different—but similar—crystal shapes. Towers are often carved and polished to have 4-8 sides and a flat base whereas points are made from natural crystals that have been cut on the bottom so they can stand upright.

Regardless of which shape you are using, both shapes work with energy in very similar ways. And the fact is they are powerhouses of energy that are just waiting to be channeled properly. Much like their shapes, towers and points literally elevate the energy in a space. They direct energy up and out, allowing you to focus energy in the spaces and places it is most needed.

I love using a tower or point as the center of a crystal grid. Much like a sphere, towers and points can harness energy in an extraordinary way. I have also used towers/points to target energy to a particular part of my body. Almost like using a laser.

Towers and points are also a wonderful addition to any workspace—they have extremely focused energy and that focus can rub off on you throughout your workday. This Yellow Fluorite tower is perfect for anyone who needs a little more focus and concentration while at work.

Wands

Often called massage wands, it should come as no surprise that crystal wands are wonderful for relaxation and self-care. The shape is designed to help eliminate blockages from our energetic bodies because of their powerful ability to direct energy.

Wands can direct energy to specific areas of the body and are very powerful when they come into contact with our bodies. They can revitalize the body by introducing high vibrational energy into areas where there is none.

Crystal wands are perfect for meditation, reflexology, and as I mentioned before, massage. Check out some of my favorite crystal wands here and read more about my favorite ways to use them!

Palm Stones

Palm stone is a kind of catch-all term that represents a wide variety of small to medium, hand-held stone shapes—tumbled touchstones, fidget stones, power stones, and flat stones all fall into the palm stone category. And while you’ll find each of these terms used in different ways, the general idea is that these smaller crystals allow you to have the power of crystal energy at your fingertips.

Palm stones are the perfect size for carrying with you throughout the day—throw one in your pocket or purse and hold it in your hand whenever you need an energetic boost. Their size and shape also make them wonderful meditation tools and throwing one under your pillow is a great way to harness the energy of a crystal sleep aid like Amethyst

Figures & Carvings

From angels and animals to buddhas and celestial bodies, there are hundreds of different crystal figures and cravings.

Much like crystals themselves, each carved shape has a different energy. When you work with a crystal figure or carving, you get to experience the energy of the shape or animal along with

the energy of the stone.

So if you are working with an Amazonite Unicorn, you’ll get the benefits of free-spirit energy and speak-your-truth energy in one compact, beautiful package. Our carved Clear Quartz Full Moons bring the healing energy of Quartz and the regenerative energy of the moon together in one intricately carved crystal. By combining the power of focus and memory retention from Fluorite with the steadfast endurance to rise above one’s weaknesses from the Zuni bison, you create a powerful sculpture that can help you take on just about anything.

I’d love to know which shape resonates with you—are you feeling the pull of a crystal heart or are you more drawn to a crystal tower? Drop a comment below and let me know!
