Why Crystals Are Amazing for Everyone
There are a lot—a lot!—of aspects of crystals that I love but perhaps one of the things that makes me so enamored with them is the fact that they are universal. No matter what your belief system is, there is something for everyone in crystals!
Working with crystals for self-healing and spiritual growth is a field of inspection, exploration, and speculation. While there currently isn’t any peer-reviewed hard science available that shows crystals have healing energy, my own experiences with crystals are enough to convince me. And hey, there are millions of people worldwide who are buying and using crystals in this way—clearly, there is something to crystals being a beneficial healing tool.
And while I trust and believe in the healing power of crystals, I don’t think that you have to be fully spiritual to enjoy and benefit from crystals. Your journey with crystals doesn’t have to look like mine or anyone else's—that’s what is so wonderful about crystals!
Let’s unpack some of the ways that you can incorporate crystals in your life without needing to fully embrace the more spiritual side of a crystal practice.
They are simply beautiful
There is nothing wrong with being attracted to crystals because they are, well, attractive. That is how a lot of people find their way into the world of crystals. And let’s be honest, there are some completely stunning crystals out there.
Don’t ever shy away from a crystal simply because you are drawn to it because of what it looks like—crystals find their way into our lives in a myriad of ways. And you can still enjoy crystals simply because they look amazing on your bookshelf, bedside table, or in jewelry.
There are lots of ways to incorporate crystals into your life without needing to establish an accompanying crystal practice—and if you start to notice positive changes in your life once you start incorporating crystals into it, you might be ready to look into the healing properties of the beauties you’ve chosen!
Decor
A great way to bring crystals into your life is in your decor. Let’s face it, crystals are gorgeous. No matter what style or color palette you gravitate towards, there is a crystal out there that can add that extra something to your space.
I love the way a natural crystal looks in a home—they are great on a bookshelf, windowsill, side table, desk… you name it, a crystal will look great there! Freeforms and slabs are a great way to achieve a polished yet natural look while clusters bring with them an earthy, natural feel.
If you are more of a functional decorator, there are many different ways to bring crystal into your home with a purpose. From bowls and mirrors to lamps and candle holders, there are so many practical ways to add some crystal sparkle to your home or workspace!
Jewelry
If you are a jewelry fan, incorporating crystals into your jewelry collection is a wonderful way to add a little extra shine to your wardrobe. You don’t need to think about meditating with your crystals, you can simply throw them on in the morning or for the evening.
That’s one of my favorite things about crystal jewelry—because you are wearing it often, you are building a deeper connection with the crystal and tapping into its energy throughout the day or evening. It’s a great way to introduce yourself to the healing powers of crystals!
Whether you’re drawn to bracelets, earrings, necklaces, pendants, or rings, there are endless crystal possibilities to choose from. And if you aren’t all that interested in the healing properties of crystals, you’ll still be able to find an amazing piece of jewelry that you love! Bonus—you’ll still be harnessing all the amazing energy of the crystal, but you don’t have to give it a second thought!!
The geology behind crystals
Maybe one of the coolest ways to get into crystals outside of their healing abilities is to dig into the geology behind them.
A crystal is a solid material whose “constituents are arranged in a highly ordered microscopic structure” and this forms a crystal lattice. Whether it is naturally occurring in Mother Nature or man-made, what every crystal has in common is an extremely well-organized molecular structure.
Crystals can be formed in a variety of ways—some are formed through a cooling process, like Quartz while others are formed when liquid evaporates, like Amethyst.
Rhodochrosite with Pyrite inclusions
As you start to look at individual crystals, that’s where the geology can be enough to really spark your interest and get you hooked on crystals!
Take this amazing case of the Cave of Crystals., for example. The Cueva de Los Cristales located beneath the Sierra de Naica mountain in Chihuahua, Mexico houses the largest crystals in the world. These caves full of Gypsum have some crystals as long as 36 feet and as wide as 3 feet! You probably have heard of the most popular varieties of Gypsum: Alabaster, Desert Rose, Sand Gypsum, Selenite, and Satin Spar (often called Selenite.) Geologists spent years studying these crystals to determine how they could have possibly grown so large—it started 26 million years ago with volcanic activity and a steady temperature of 58°C in the cave has allowed the crystals to grow to their enormous size.
Or what about Bumble Bee Jasper? A sedimentary rock that contains sulfur, manganese oxides, arsenic sulfides, calcite, aragonite, realgar, and orpiment that was only discovered in 1990!
As you learn about the geological properties of each crystal, you’ll start to see that the mineral world is one of many hidden wonders just waiting for you to discover. And as you welcome more and more crystals into your home and life, you may start to notice a difference in the energy around you!
If you’re still unsure about the healing benefits of crystals, that’s completely okay. But don’t let your uncertainty keep you from enjoying everything else crystals have to offer! Find another way to connect with crystals and let them bring some of their sparkle and charm into your life!
Keep shining, Crystal Lover!
