Crystals to Help Cope with The Loss of A Loved One

Losing a loved one has a profound effect on us. While we are all spiritual beings, we are here having a very physical, human experience. And a huge part of that is our physical connection with others.

When we lose someone who is dear to us, person or animal, it can leave us feeling like we are reeling from the blow of that loss. Not only are we grieving the loss of their presence, we can also be left feeling like our routines, anchors, and supports are all uprooted.

Grieving is a natural (although emotionally draining!) process and it is so important to allow the process to unfold. Fortunately for us, there are a few crystals that can help to make the grieving process a bit easier to navigate.

Please keep in mind this is not an all-inclusive list. As always, trust your intuition and use crystals you are drawn to in times of loss.

Apache Tears

Apache Tears are a form of obsidian and will appear black until held up to the light (you can then see the transparency they have). These stones have wonderful grounding energy and can help to absorb negative thoughts and energies. Staying grounded and feeling protected is very helpful while navigating through grief. Staying grounded will help you not feel like your grief is controlling you and will help you to stay rooted when the waves come crashing down on you. The protection energy will help you to feel safe while you are feeling very raw and vulnerable in the initial stages of grief.

Aquamarine

Aquamarine is a beautiful member of the beryl family and can come in colors ranging from clear/almost white to blues and greens. The energy of aquamarine is calming and emotionally cleansing. This is such a helpful crystal to use as it helps you to release your attachment to someone’s physical presence. When a loved one passes on, that is what we are grieving…the loss of their physical presence in our lives, which can be a very gut-wrenching experience. Aquamarine will help you to take comfort and solace in the love and spiritual connection that remains.

Howlite

Howlite is a member of the borate family and is most often white with grey veining. It is able to be easily dyed and because of this, is frequently dyed to look like turquoise. Howlite energy is all about keeping calm, bringing peace, and allowing you to rest. This calming stone can help you to get good quality sleep (SUPER important when grieving) and is a great help at staying calm during those times when it can feel like the grief is going to never end. Howlite can also help to give you some much-needed moments of peace during the storms of the grieving process.

Lepidolite

Lepidolite is a member of the mica family and is heavily included with lithium. The energies of Lepidolite are very soothing and can be a huge help in softening the super-sharp jabs of grief that can be present constantly in the early stages and come in waves in the later stages of the grieving process. The soft energy helps to ease anxiety, brings calm and peace, and allows your physical body to relax enough to rest and recharge. This is extremely important during the grieving process as it takes a LOT of energy to process those kinds of emotions.

Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is a powerful member of the quartz crystalline family and gets its beautiful color from a variety of mineral inclusions including iron and manganese (as well as others!). The energy of Rose Quartz is all about love and is extremely helpful when grieving. It is important to feel loved, supported, and secure while going through the sometimes rocky and unpredictable process of grieving. Rose Quartz is going to help you to feel all of those and more. Rose Quartz’s loving energy reminds you that love is always around you and can never die. It is also a great help in reminding you to take good care of yourself during a time of grief and to allow yourself the space and the grace to grieve at a pace and in a way that feels right for you.

As I said above, this is not an all-inclusive list, however, these are the ones I will always recommend people to start with. We’ve pulled these crystals together into a Grief Support Crystal Intention Pouch. CLICK HERE if you’d like to check it out. All or any combination of these will act as an energetic balm on the wounds from grief. Trust your intuition and use those that call to you.

Keep shining, Crystal Lover!
