How to Heal with Color

Everything on Earth and in the Universe is energy - you, your emotions and thoughts, stars, trees, the elements, and, of course, our beloved crystals. You may have heard the saying by the great Physicist, Albert Einstein, "Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be changed from one form to another." This means a lot when it comes to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. When something is out of balance energetically, it causes dis-ease in our bodies and in our lives. This is why using energetic tools, such as color, sound or crystals is vital to our well-being. In this post, we are going to focus on the healing energy of color.

The ancient Egyptians have been recorded to have been using color for cures and ailments. They worshipped the sun, knowing that without light there can be no life. They looked at nature and copied it in many aspects of their lives. The floors of their temples were often green - as the grass which then grew alongside their river, the Nile. They built temples for healing and used crystals through which the sunlight shone. Amazing, right?!

It's no surprise that we are attracted to crystals that are a certain color. We know at a subconscious level, and maybe even at a cellular level, how we can benefit from that crystal. Each color that our eyes can pick up can be broken down into numerous frequencies, and each frequency relates to a color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, and all their vibrations (variations of that color frequency.) This may sound familiar to you, as the Chakra System (energy centers of the body) is aligned with certain colors also, which are in line with the visible color spectrum. Certainly not a coincidence! Using the energy of color can positively impact the energy that makes up who we are...our auric, emotional, and physical bodies. Below are some healing properties that coincide with the seven colors and Chakra System mentioned above, as well as white and black. As you read about the color properties, see if any crystals come to mind!

  • Red: The Root Chakra located at the base of the spine is represented by red color. The chakra has to do with our connection with the Earth and feelings of security. Some therapeutic properties are grounding, energizes the blood, motivates action.

  • Orange: The Sacral Chakra, which is located 2 or 3 inches below the navel is represented by orange color. This chakra is associated with reproduction, kidneys, adrenals, and pleasure. The chakra is the mind-body chakra. Some therapeutic properties are creativity, joy, motivation.

  • Yellow: The Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with the liver, pancreas, digestive system, and gallbladder. The chakra is located between the navel and sternum. Some therapeutic properties are empowerment, well-being, and warmth.

  • Green: This color represents the Heart Chakra. It’s associated with the heart, lungs and immune system, energy, nervous system, and mental focus. Pink is also aligned with the Heart Chakra and generates calming and loving energy. Some therapeutic properties are compassion, emotional healing, connection with nature.

  • Blue: The Throat chakra, which is associated with thyroid and metabolism. Some therapeutic properties are peaceful expression, calming, relaxing.

  • Indigo: The Third Eye Chakra is located between the eyebrows. It is associated with the pituitary gland and pineal gland. It influences our sleep cycle, clarity, and intuition. Some therapeutic properties are increased inner vision, mental focus, balance.

  • Purple: This color is associated with the Crown Chakra and is located at the top of the head. It is associated with dreams, spirituality, sleep cycles, and the pineal gland. Some therapeutic properties are mental calm, spiritual growth, divine guidance.

  • White: White comprises all vibrations on the visible light spectrum and is sometimes associated with the Crown Chakra. It is associated with spirituality, ethereal, angels, and divinity. Some therapeutic properties are mental calming, purification, peace.

  • Black: Black is the absence of light or, technically, the reflection of light. This is why black crystals are known for being great energy tools for protection. This "color" is sometimes associated with the Root Chakra as it supports feelings of safety. Some therapeutic properties are stress reduction, psychic protection, shielding.

Stones and crystals resonate energies that are innate to their specific mineral makeup (i.e., Quartz, Jasper, Agate, Feldspar, etc.) and support healing based on their unique energy vibrations. Add in the element of color, and you have a double dose of therapeutic amazingness! So, next time you see a crystal and you are drawn to it because of its color, remember that there's a reason for that connection!
