Can I Sleep With Crystals Under My Pillow?

I had an interesting DM in my inbox this week, and I wanted to hop on here to share it with all of you. A community member has been struggling with their sleep recently and had questions about how to best use her crystals to help. 

“Hey, Sara! Just had a quick question… Is it safe or a good idea to sleep with a crystal under my pillow or maybe my mattress? I’ve been struggling with sleep lately and I’m hoping I can use my crystals to help get a good night’s sleep. Thanks!”

This is such a great question because, let’s be real, who of us hasn’t struggled with getting a good night’s sleep at some point? And crystals are a powerful companion on your journey to a restful night

Can I sleep with crystals under my pillow or mattress?

The short answer? Yes! Yes, you can sleep with crystals under your pillow or mattress. Crystals can help enhance your sleep experience and by keeping them close by during the night, you can get the greatest benefit from their energy.

I always recommend using small, tumbled crystals or crystal wands—these shapes are not likely to poke or prod you throughout the night. But you may find a sphere, egg, or another shape that works best for you and that is great! 

And the next time you are traveling, make sure you bring your crystals along with you. Sleeping away from home can bring up a whole slew of sleep issues you may not experience in your bed. Coming prepared with a crystal or two can help ease you into a more comfortable sleep. 

The benefits of sleeping with crystals

I talk to you a lot about the benefits of crystals and how you can use them when you are awake. Well, these same benefits transfer to using a crystal while you’re sleeping. You can actually be more open to their energies as your conscious barriers are let down when sleeping.

A lot of the crystals that support sleep increase the power of their frequencies during the night and work their energetic magic while you snooze! When you sleep with a crystal under your pillow, the crystal will work to bring calm, relaxed energy to your mind and body so you can achieve a night of restful, restorative sleep. 

While you’re sleeping, you and the crystal that you place under your pillow or mattress—or even on your bedside table if that’s more within your comfort zone—will transfer energy back and forth. It is this transfer of energy that will allow you to tap into all of the powerful benefits of the crystal you’ve chosen.

Crystals that support sleep can do everything from helping you with insomnia to clearing your mind of anxiety to remembering your dreams.

How to introduce crystals to your sleep environment

Once you’ve decided to bring crystals into your sleep sanctuary, it's important to bring any crystal into your space with intention. 

There is a reason you chose the crystal you did—most likely you felt drawn to it and its energies aligned with your goals. So, the first step to bringing a crystal into your bedroom is to hold the crystal for a minute—or more if you feel comfortable—and think about how you want your mind and body to feel when you go to sleep.

This can be a meditation, but if meditating is not something you like to do, it can also just be sitting quietly with your thoughts and focusing on how you want to improve or change your sleep patterns.

Then, you will gently place the crystal under your pillow or mattress. When you wake up in the morning, take the time to acknowledge the crystal and the work it has done for you overnight. I would also recommend clearing the crystal at a minimum once a week—hopefully you’re sleeping for at least 7 to 8 hours a night so that crystal is working overtime! To keep its energies pure and effective, cleansing your crystal is essential. I use a Satin Spar Selenite charging plate or ingot to clear my sleep crystals during the day.

Clear Quartz, one of the most popular crystals in the mineral world, is great for dreaming. This crystal promotes vivid dreaming and helps you remember your dreams in the morning. It can also help you release and clear out stress before falling asleep to give you a more restful sleep.

3. Angelite

The calming energy of Angelite helps to ease feelings of fear and anxiety—it helps to quiet your mind at night and keep you asleep for the entire night. And if you are looking to work on dream recall, Angelite is a wonderful crystal to have with you at night. 

By adding a few quick steps to your nightly routine, you can help improve your sleep by leaps and bounds. Whichever crystal you choose, remember to find one that you connect with—this will give you the best connection and most abundant energy exchange possible.
